Trama:

La ricca Mary Haines, che lavora nella moda presso l'azienda del padre, passa le giornate con le amiche tra saloni di bellezza ed eventi mondani, spettegolando su chiunque. Mary è sposata da molti anni e il suo solido matrimonio è invidiato da tutte, ma quando si scopre che il marito ha una relazione extraconiugale con una sensuale e giovane commessa di profumeria, diventa lei stessa vittima del pettegolezzo; viene inoltre licenziata. Nonostante la sofferenza per il matrimonio finito, gli scontri con la figlia adolescente e le delusioni causate dalle amiche, Mary non si perde d'animo e, dopo un lungo periodo di riflessione, riesce a capire cosa realmente vuole dalla sua vita e dal suo matrimonio.
